Pretty Bird Farm
Tiffany, John and their children Violet and Wyatt have been growing flowers and vegetables in Delaware twp. since 2014. Their farm started as a family food garden and has grown into a small family business offering our community a wide variety of specialty cut flowers, heirloom tomatoes, chicken eggs, holiday wreaths, honey and other garden gifts. Their garden is pesticide-free, low water use and they plant to support our local pollinators.
You will find Pretty Bird Farm every Sunday at Hunterdon Community Farmers Market
Our Story
Tiffany
Tiffany grew up playing in the dirt in her family garden and attended Rutgers University where she earned her BS in Horticulture and MBA. She has worked in the industry for more than 25 years in greenhouses, garden centers, landscaping and a global plant breeder and distributor. When frost takes the fresh cuts, she keeps the season alive with dried florals on pumpkins and wreaths. Tiffany's favorite flowers are Tulips, Peonies and Zinnias and she is always looking for unique stems to add seasonally to her bouquets.
John
John grew up imagining that he would be a baseball coach and a history teacher. Now he is a farmer and wine salesman. After graduating from Rutgers with a history degree, he met Tiffany in New Brunswick. And a few years later, he and Tiffany bought property in Delaware Township, which is now Pretty Bird Farm. In addition to learning as much about flowers over the years as he can remember, John has a soft spot in his heart for heirloom tomatoes. John's favorite flowers are bachelor buttons, dahlias and alstroemeria. His favorite tomatoes are Nebraska Wedding, Paul Robeson and Peach Blow Sutton
Violet & Wyatt
Our farm has changed so much since its humble beginnings, evolving from a small family food garden to a family business, and also a play place for our children to run, play and learn about the natural world. We had no distinct vision of what the property would turn into when we first purchased it, but being able to provide a space for our children and their friends to experience nature has been incredibly rewarding
Violet has never met a tomato she doesn't like and also loves eating cucumbers, wild violets, nasturtium and fresh herbs. When she isn't riding her bike through the garden or catching frogs in the pond, she is often found putting together bouquets from the stems that don't make it into Mom's bouquets. There isn't a weekend where her mini bouquets don't show up in various parts of the house.
Wyatt loves tulip planting season, gathering firewood and running around aimlessly through the meadow and gardens. He is also starting to become more and more interested in helping with cutting and gathering flowers for the market, but is often distracted by chasing rabbits out of the gardens. When he isn't underfoot in the gardens, you can normally find Wyatt (and Violet) dangling in a swing or hammock overlooking the Rosemont Valley.
